Civil Takt Planning

Make Takt Planning the new standard for your projects by implementing the visual tools the method allows. Here at MORA TAKT PLAN, we have the knowledge and experience to work on your civil projects, including the development of new living areas with pipeline installation, pavement, water treatment plants, reservoirs, and more.

Civil Works are seen as something that does not require a lot of attention, the repeated activities make it easy to plan and execute. Unfortunately, it is the simplicity of the civil planning that is what makes some programs fail. The confidence makes the schedulers forget about real productions rates, weather conditions, and buffers.

If your interest is on Civil Projects, here are the steps you should take to create your own takt plan. First the drawings:

  1. Identify and remark elements over the drawings. This includes pipelines, manholes, pump stations, and all other items.

  2. Each service must be identified with a specific color or code. A general reference is used for the utilities “SD: Storm Drain” or “WL: Water Line”.

  3. Zones are divided according to the phases of the project, the zones of work, or by any other requirement from the client or the project.

  4. A legend with the colors, symbols & services is added to the drawings for reference.

As soon as everything is identified and marked, it is time to start with our Civil Takt Plan.

  1. Zones on the left (phase, zones, streets) and time at the top (working days).

  2. Start placing the activities according to the working progress expected for the project. Most of the times if follows the lowest pipeline underground up to the pavement.

  3. Add 5% to 20% of buffers. For this identify the activities that causes more conflict and also consider weather seasons.

Most Civil Takt Plans won’t look like a “typical” Takt Plan, but they are still using the theory to be created and used.

Remember: a Takt Plan works in a different format than a CPM, and instead of having a critical path, we are having a critical flow.
